Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Policy
1. Purpose
To ensure the best possible educational outcome for students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander through the provision of a culturally supportive and appropriate learning environment.
2. Scope
All current and potential Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
3. Principles
3.1 CIT is committed to promoting educational opportunities for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students and this will be reflected in the CIT marketing strategy, where appropriate.
3.2 CIT will provide designated places in publicly funded programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have:
- identified with CIT Yurauna Centre prior to the enrolment cut-off date for the subject/program that they intend to enroll in; and
- CIT Yurauna Centre and the relevant College have assessed the student as having sufficient academic background and support to be able to achieve the objectives of their chosen program.
3.3 CIT will provide a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students to meet their cultural, academic and personal needs.
3.4 All students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander either during enrolment or prior to enrolment must be referred to the CIT Yurauna Centre.
3.5 CIT will provide the CIT Indigenous Scholarship program for all publicly funded programs.
3.6 All students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander must be advised of the CIT Indigenous Scholarship program and the application form.
3.7 Eligibility to access scholarship funds must include proof of Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander and demonstrated academic commitment.
3.8 The purpose of the scholarship has been achieved once a student has attained a major qualification such as a Diploma or Advanced Diploma.
