Unique Student Identifier

To enrol at CIT, you will need an Australian Government Unique Student Identifier (USI).

What is a USI?

A USI is your individual education number for life.

If you're at CIT or doing other nationally recognised training, you need a USI. Without one, you can't get Commonwealth financial assistance or your qualification.

You cannot enrol or graduate without one unless you are studying a non-accredited or higher education course as these courses are exempt from requiring a USI. However, if you're enrolling into a non-accredited or higher education course without a USI, you will not be able to enrol online and will need to contact Student Services for assistance.

Don't have one?

You can apply now, it only takes 2 minutes! Go to usi.gov.au

Already have one?

Great! Verify it in our student administration system now so your enrolment or graduation isn't delayed.

1. Login to CIT Self Service – cit.edu.au/selfservice

2. Click on the link for USI

3. Verify your USI

It's important that your first name, surname and date of birth in our student system match the ID you use to create your USI (eg if you are Christopher in USI database and Chris at CIT your USI will not verify)

If the verification doesn't work then check your first name, surname and date of birth details in CIT Self Service. If they don't match your ID either change the details through the USI website OR or come into any Student Services location with a copy of your ID, or email a copy to infoline@cit.edu.au.

If you need assistance with creating your USI, visit any CIT Student Services location, CITSA office, or call (02) 6207 3188.

Download your VET transcript online with your USI

A USI also provides you with an online record of your VET training undertaken in Australia, which can help you:

  • keep a verified record of all your VET qualifications in one place
  • verify your completed qualifications for a potential employer
  • assist you in seeking a credit transfer
  • demonstrate prerequisites when doing more study.

Visit the USI website to find out more about the VET transcripts for students.

Note: Only subjects/courses completed since 2015 appear automatically on your USI Transcript.
