Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Forensic Fingerprint Investigation provides students with the discipline expertise to undertake, use and apply advanced forensic fingerprint detection techniques within laboratory and field contexts. It covers the skills and knowledge to operate and manage the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) and to take and record fingerprint impressions of deceased persons. Students will develop expert skills to perform fingerprint comparisons/identification by applying scientific methodology and develop fingerprint expertise and maintain currency.
This is a restricted Police qualification; students must be employed by an Australian Police Service to enrol.

Entry Requirements

Students must be currently employed by an Australian Policing Agency and be nominated by the relevant jurisdictional forensic section within that State/Territory AND

  • Demonstrate successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Forensic Investigation or equivalent
  • OR
  • demonstrate successful completion of a degree, associate degree or advanced diploma or Diploma of Public Safety (Policing) or equivalent
  • OR
  • be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills to undertake vocational education and training at the graduate certificate Level.

To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 4 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
