CIT and UC signing MoU

In a significant development for the Canberra education landscape, the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and the University of Canberra (UC) have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that marks the beginning of an expanded partnership between the two institutions.

This three-year agreement is set to enhance educational pathways for students across the ACT and surrounding regions, while fostering collaboration across vocational and higher education sectors.

The MoU lays the groundwork for a range of initiatives designed to bridge gaps between vocational and higher education, increase shared resources and provide a broader spectrum of learning opportunities.

CIT Interim CEO, Christine Robertson, emphasised the importance of this renewed collaboration, highlighting how the partnership will break down barriers between vocational education and training institutions and higher education.

"This MoU represents a significant step forward for both CIT and UC. Together, we are working to provide our students with a more seamless educational experience, from enriched articulation pathways to shared facilities that benefit the entire student body," Ms Robertson said.

Ms Robertson also noted how the MoU will contribute to innovative approaches in education and training that are designed to meet future workforce needs, adding, "This partnership is about creating a brighter future for our students and our community. By working with UC, we are committed to developing educational models that will serve the needs of future generations."

UC Interim Vice-Chancellor Professor Lucy Johnston echoed these sentiments, reinforcing UC's commitment to expanding educational opportunities for students and contributing to the local community's growth.

"Partnering with CIT to break down barriers and make tertiary education more accessible and inclusive aligns directly with our strategic plan and our vision for Canberra. This MoU will open doors for students to access a broader range of study options and smooth pathways to university degrees."

"Both UC and CIT play unique roles within the ACT’s educational ecosystem, and together, we are strengthening the region’s ability to provide seamless, accessible education for students. Our mutual goal is to ensure that students can move between institutions with ease, upskill to meet workforce demands and feel confident in their preparation for the workplace upon graduation," Professor Johnston said.

The MoU also demonstrates a commitment to addressing key ACT Government priorities, particularly those related to education engagement. By coordinating resources and aligning their strategies, CIT and UC are positioned at the forefront of educational innovation in Canberra.

"This is not just about what we can achieve today but about building an education system that supports the needs of our community well into the future. Together, we will enhance access to education and prepare our students for success in an ever-changing world," Ms Robertson said.
