HCS-showcase

Are you looking for opportunities for your students to explore their course and career options in the health, community or science industries?

Join us for an interactive showcase of CIT's health, community and science course offerings on Wednesday 14 August 2024.

Coinciding with National Science Week, this interactive event will provide students in years 10 to 12 with opportunities to participate in hands-on learning activities in state-of-the-art teaching facilities so they can experience what it's like to be a CIT student for a day.

  • When: 14 August 2024, 9am-3pm
  • Where: CIT Bruce, 35 Vowels Crescent, Bruce
  • Who: Students in years 10 to 12

Places are limited. Registration is essential. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

During the showcase, students will participate in tours, practical activities and demonstrations across three industry areas.

  • Early Childhood Education
    • From birth, children are curious. We can build on that natural curiosity by developing their interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). In this session, students will visit Burrumbah, our simulated early education and care space, where they will be given the opportunity to engage with science in a creative and interactive way through a transient art experience, making a model volcano.

  • Nursing
    • This introduction to nursing session will provide students with an interactive tour of our world-class nursing facilities, including our simulation labs where students engage in immersive learning experiences.

Students will observe a demonstration of the nursing simulation manikins that can be used to mimic various medical conditions, helping students learn how to recognise and interpret clinical signs and make informed decisions about patient care.

Students will also have the opportunity to engage in a practical vital signs exercise.

  • Science
    • This session provide students with the opportunity to explore two areas of science:

      1. Physical science - Students will observe a number of applications of basic science in laboratory techniques and forensic science and participate in practical activities such as:

      - using a special light (polilight) to detect evidence at crime scenes
      - analysing samples under microscopes
      - using spectroscopy and chromatography to study ink samples
      - testing the pH of different substances

      2. Natural science - Students will observe a fish demonstration in our animal science teaching and learning facilities and learn about fish feeding behaviours and water testing.
