Rolls Policy

1. Purpose

To ensure accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance for identified student cohorts. This should be read in conjunction with the Assessment Policy and Procedures.

2. Scope

Applies to all student cohorts as identified in Principle 3.1.

3. Principles

3.1 An attendance record is mandatory for the following student cohorts:

  • User Choice students such as Apprentices and Trainees
  • students under the age of 18 years
  • students studying towards their Year 12 Certificate (CIT Pathways or External/Certified courses with ACT schools/colleges)
  • International students
  • specialist funding groups with additional requirements such as Skilled Capital and JobTrainer.

3.2 Teachers may choose to record attendance for all other student cohorts, but this is not a requirement.

3.3 Teachers must collect evidence of engagement for all student cohorts, separate from attendance. This may be through:

  • completing a related activity (learning or assessment) on eLearn
  • completing an assessment item.

3.4 CIT's approved attendance record is the Banner/Self service class roster. This is to be completed electronically to capture any scheduled session of attendance, for example face to face, online, virtual, flexible, workplace or college/school.  Marking attendance online can send and record attendance notifications to the employers of apprentices and trainees.

3.5 Teachers must seek approval from the Director, Education Services before using any alternative attendance record.

3.6 Teachers must maintain confidentiality of all student data at all times.
