Overview

This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to administer and manage information and communication technology (ICT) support in a small to medium enterprise (SME) using a wide range of IT technologies and cyber security practices.

The course is designed to strengthen and build on your current experiences enabling you to compete complex IT tasks and further develop skills to lead and manage Cyber security and IT projects. 

You will build your skills and knowledge to design, configure, build, and maintain networks, implement, and manage virtual computing environments while understanding and addressing the necessary security infrastructure requirements and risks.

Duration:

CIT will deliver this course of training full time over two (2) semesters, or part time equivalent, with a minimum of 20 hours of study per week over 16 weeks, including face-to-face and virtual delivery.

It is expected students will spend approximately the same number of hours in private study to practice skills and apply knowledge learnt.

ICT has weekly practical lab activities students are advised to complete weekly to enable successful completion of assessments.

Additional Information

Upon enrolment into the course, you may be required to make additional purchases of hardware items to use during the dedicated class sessions. This includes:

  • An external SATA III compatible hard drive (1TB). Solid State Disk (SSD) is optional if you would like the benefit of increased speed. If you choose to purchase an SSD hard disk you must also use a 3.5” converter.

Computer equipment is supplied on-campus and in-class. However, if providing your own device, it is recommended a device with camera accessibility for completing virtual studies with a minimum 16Gb RAM, at least 1TB storage, and i5 dual core processor.

Concession holders get 50% off subject fees. Fee Assistance and payment plans are available. Eligible students can apply for a VET Student Loan to cover course fees, repayable through the Australian Taxation System once your income reaches the threshold.

CIT has credit transfer arrangements with numerous universities and maintain relationships with Australian National University, University of Canberra, Australian Catholic University and Charles Sturt University.

Entry Requirements

The diploma does not have explicit entry requirements, but it is expected that all students will have ability to demonstrate or have completed the following certifications: 

  • ICT40120 Certificate IV in Information Technology (C4-BD65) 
  • 22603VIC Certificate IV in Cyber Security (C4-BD75) 

If these qualifications have not been completed the student is required to demonstrate vocational experience in a range of work environments, specifically in Cyber security and using IT networking technologies. The experience must relate to the units of competency and examples of the following can be provided: 

  • Working with the intermediate functions of the current version of Windows Server such as DHCP, DNS, NPS, VPN and IPsec. 
  • The ability to pass CCNA Introduction to Networks (TCP/IP model, OSI model, basic router configuration and IP addressing including VLSM) 
  • Conducting vulnerability assessments and implementing security measures to protect systems and networks against threats such as malware, phishing, and ransomware. 
  • Configuring and managing cybersecurity tools and technologies, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint protection platforms.
  • Applying security frameworks and protocols, including understanding encryption methods, secure authentication mechanisms, and data protection strategies. 
  • Developing and implementing incident response plans, including monitoring and analysing security events and mitigating breaches. 
  • Performing penetration testing and ethical hacking practices to identify and evaluate system vulnerabilities in compliance with organisational policies.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 4 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
