Overview

The Accounting and Bookkeeping qualification covers the requirements of those in finance roles in a variety of industries.

It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, data processing, monthly reconciliations, preparing budgets, preparing reports on financial performance and the position of the business, preparing end-of-year adjustments, and finalising financial records after year-end. Dealing with the Commissioner of Taxation on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements and other lodgement matters.

This qualification includes units that comprise an approved Tax Practitioner Board (TPB) course in Australian taxation law and commercial law, which are relevant for registration as a tax agent. If you are seeking registration with the TPB you should check current registration requirements with the TPB.

Duration:

1 semester full-time (20 hours) face-to-face classes per week plus up to 20 hours per week of self-directed study, project and assignment work OR part-time equivalent in night classes or flexible learning.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who do not hold the 5 Certificate III in Accounts Administration subjects included in the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping will need to complete them prior to enrolling in the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

Enrolment fees for this course are based on the costs per subject as indicated below. The total course cost may vary depending on the choice of elective subjects or if subjects are attempted more than once. Subject costs identified as Standard are partially subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible students.

Additional Information

Successful completion of this course will lead to the Diploma of Accounting.

This qualification is part of a suite of courses that includes Certificate III in Accounts Administration, Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, the Diploma of Accounting and the Advanced Diploma of Accounting. Lower-level qualifications or equivalent skills and knowledge are required for successful completion of higher-level courses.
