The Fee-Free TAFE Initiative provides free training to people seeking to learn, retrain or upskill.
Fee-Free TAFE is a jointly funded initiative of the Commonwealth, state and territory governments.
Eligibility criteria apply.
Approved students will need to pay for any learning resources such as textbooks or other equipment required for the course.
The course will remain fee-free for the duration of your training as long as you remain engaged in your study.
Free TAFE
All Fee-Free TAFE and Fee-Free Construction places at CIT have been allocated. These initiatives will transition to Free TAFE in 2027.
Once the details of the Free TAFE program are confirmed by the ACT and Australian governments, this page will be updated with the list of ACT Free TAFE courses.
Applications for Semester 1, 2027 are now open. If you are interested in studying at CIT in 2027 and are waiting for the Free TAFE course list, we encourage you to apply now for your preferred course and follow CIT’s enrolment advice to secure your place.
If your chosen course is approved for Free TAFE, CIT will contact you with information about the eligibility requirements and how to be assessed for a Free TAFE place.
Free TAFE places will be limited. If all available places in a course are allocated while applications are being assessed, no further Free TAFE applications will be accepted for that course for the remainder of the semester. CIT does not maintain a waitlist for Free TAFE places.
If you are offered a Free TAFE place, you will be given a specific timeframe to enrol. If you do not enrol within this timeframe, your Free TAFE place will be forfeited and it will be offered to another eligible applicant.
