Open Gardens Scholarship

The Open Gardens Canberra Scholarship provides an exciting opportunity for a non-apprenticed student currently studying any CIT Horticulture course.

One scholarship for the value of $2,000, provided in two payments, is available to students who have successfully completed eight units of competency. The scholarship can be used towards tuition fees, textbooks and equipment. In addition to the scholarship, the successful recipient will be invited to assist Open Gardens Canberra in practical activities such as inspection and selection visits to Canberra and region gardens wishing to open to the public, preparation visits before opening and helping on an open day.

How to apply:

Submit a two-page Expression of Interest (EOI) outlining:

  • your key attributes that make you the successful candidate for the scholarship
  • your future aspirations/goals in the Horticultural industry
  • the contribution you could make to the Open Gardens Canberra Scheme
  • any specific examples that may support your application.

Other attachments to support your application may include:

  • your academic history
  • supporting statement from one of your CIT teachers
  • any other documents you feel would enhance the success of being considered.

Applications will be judged on:

  • evidence of academic commitment and successful achievement of eight subjects in your chosen horticulture pathway
  • evidence of skill development and knowledge of gardening practice and considerations for the Canberra region
  • an aptitude for personal development related to horticulture.
