Overview

This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to administer and manage information and communication technology (ICT) support in a small to medium enterprise (SME) using a wide range of IT technologies.

The course is designed to strengthen and build on your current experiences enabling you to compete complex IT tasks and further develop skills to lead and manage IT projects in Programming and Networking.

The Networking stream will build your skills and knowledge to design, configure, build, and maintain networks, implement, and manage virtual computing environments while understanding and addressing the necessary security infrastructure requirements and risks.

The Programming stream provides you with intermediate and advanced programming skills to design and construct advanced user interfaces addressing organisational requirements, including developing and maintaining website information architecture, and data analysis.

Duration:

This course is delivered full time over two (2) semesters (approx. 20 hours per week) full-time or part-time equivalent.
It is expected that you will spend approximately the same number of hours in private study to practise skills and apply new knowledge.
Available class times will vary providing flexibility of attendance, including morning afternoon and some evening classes.
Delivery mode will include face to face class delivery and virtual. There will be limited online units available. There are workshops/tutorials available to support the virtual and online learning modes.

Upon enrolment into the course, you may be required to make additional purchases of hardware items to use during the dedicated class sessions.

Computer equipment is supplied on-campus and in-class. However, if providing your own device, it is recommended a device with camera accessibility for completing virtual studies with a minimum 16Gb RAM, at least 1TB storage, and i5 dual core processor.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. It is recommended that you have evidence to demonstrate the following:
1. Completed the Certificate IV in Information Technology or other relevant qualification, or:
2. If you have not completed the required qualifications, you have demonstrated vocational experience in a range of work environments, specifically using IT networking technologies. This experience must be relevant to the qualification and examples of the following will be requested prior to enrolling:

Programming stream:
- Creating OOP classes using inheritance.
- Manipulating databases using SQL; applying basic programming skills to create applications; creating markup language documents (HTML) and cascading style sheets (CSS).
- Analysing system requirements and document using UML diagrams such as user case diagram and use cases.
- Using a programming language (e.g., Java, C++ and PL/SQL) to create iterative constructs and conditional statements.

Networking stream:
- Working with the intermediate functions of the current version of Windows Server such as DHCP, DNS, NPS, VPN and IPsec.
- The ability to pass CCNA Routing and Switching - Introduction to Networks (TCP/IP model, OSI model, basic router configuration and IP addressing including VLSM)

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
