Overview

This qualification covers workers who provide a range of services and interventions to clients and/or who implement community education and interventions. Work may take place in a range of contexts such as community-based organisations and outreach services. It covers not only practical skills and knowledge essential for a career in the sector but also offers personal growth, job satisfaction and numerous professional opportunities.

The choice of electives for this qualification are set based on consultation and feedback from Industry. Students will complete 7 Core units and 8 set elective units (see course picture for details of units).

 On completion of this qualification the worker will be able to design and deliver programs that aim to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and groups. Roles can be found in various settings including government departments, not for profit organisations, community health centres and residential facilities.

Entry Requirements

There are no prescribed training package entry requirements. CIT requires you to achieve the following:
Prior to enrolment, achieve a score of 4 in most categories in a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND) task provided by CIT

Skills Recognition

To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 4 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level course. Please visit Foundation Skills.

Transition Information

Qualifications at CIT are regularly updated or replaced to meet current industry needs and maximise your employment opportunities. If this occurs while you are part way through a qualification, you may need to vary your learning to meet the new national requirements. CIT will aim to make this as smooth as possible for you.

      Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge to apply specific communication techniques to establish, build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders based on respect and trust.       Description: This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to identify and respond to the needs of clients who may be experiencing domestic and family violence, including responding to immediate intervention and support needs.This unit applies to health and community service workers providing services according to established organisation procedures. These workers may not be specialised family violence workers.The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand Standards and industry codes of practice.

This unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, in both centre-based and home-based service provision.

      Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to practice and contribute to the continuous improvement of trauma informed care within a service.
