Overview
This qualification reflects the role of photo imaging practitioners who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised and technical competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate photo imaging services
The qualification applies to a range of industry contexts, including commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography, where the practitioner is required to:
- interpret photo imaging assignment briefs from a range of clients
- consult with clients to refine objectives of photo imaging assignments
- select appropriate technologies and workflows, to capture images, including type of camera, image recording media, lighting, post-capture processing and outputs
- work from a studio or in a range of locations
- employ aesthetic, conceptual, compositional and technical skills to realise outcomes
- use a range of traditional, contemporary and emerging technologies when preparing, capturing and distributing image products.

People with CUA50915 Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging are able to work in a range of commercial and artistic photo imaging disciplines.
This qualification also prepares people for learning at higher levels, including Degree qualifications in photo imaging practice. |

Additional Information
You are required to have your own DSLR camera, lenses, portable flash equipment, a laptop and associated software to complete this course. You are advised to seek advice from staff members before any purchase.
In addition to the course fees you may also be required to pay additional ongoing costs for textbooks, additional equipment, materials, stationary, excursions and exhibition fees.

Entry Requirements
To apply for this qualification, you must
- have an Australian Year 12 or complete a literacy assessment with CIT to demonstrate a literacy of at least ACSF Level 3 in writing and maths
- AND have a Certificate IV in Photo Imaging or be able to demonstrate relevant professional skills and knowledge*.
*If you do not have a Certificate IV in Photo Imaging you will be asked to present a portfolio of your work at an interview where you will need to demonstrate the following:
- photo imaging work demonstrating the ability to respond effectively to different photo imaging challenges and requirements, and the capacity to refine concepts and images in line with current industry standards
- engagement with the design process by developing solutions through research, reflection and the generation and refinement of ideas
- application of knowledge of the photo imaging industry, its trends and traditions
- technical photo imaging knowledge and skills, including use of a range of professional digital cameras and accessories for image capture; selection and use of professional camera and lighting equipment for a range of subjects in different physical environments; enhancement and manipulation techniques using current industry standard software; use of electronic processing techniques.
To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Further Study
Completion of this qualification may provide you with credit towards a Bachelor degree in a related program. Literacy Skills Information
We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program.
