Hospitality student with big dreams

For Lake Ginninderra College student Jared Day, his time spent doing work experience at the CIT Restaurant has been invaluable to his goals to one day run his own restaurant. In fact, he has enjoyed the experience so much, he chose to extend his placement at CIT.
Early on, Jared’s teacher told students they would all be doing work experience as part of their studies, and that some students would have the opportunity to work at the CIT Restaurant. "I was one of the students who got the opportunity to work at CIT for four weeks, and I was very happy to stay for another four. I really enjoy it here."
Studying at CIT is a part of Jared’s long-term plan to work in the hospitality industry. "I love serving people and cooking for them. After I graduate I want to study hospitality at CIT and then find a job in the industry."
After that Jared said he would like to become a chef, and one day run his own restaurant. "Studying at CIT would set me up for that."
As part of his work experience at CIT Jared has been working in the front of house area. This involves serving food, running the cashier, speaking with customers and taking orders. These are some of the core aspects of hospitality, and they are also some of the things that drew Jared to the industry.
For Jared, hospitality is a chance to have a positive effect on people. "I like serving and being nice to people, plus I like food. Working in hospitality really brings out my passion for making people happy."
