Whether you need to upskill your workforce, ensure your team meets mandatory safety requirements or refresh your own knowledge, CIT offers nationally recognised construction safety short courses to keep workers safe and worksite compliant.
To work in the construction industry in the ACT, you are required to complete the following three mandatory courses:
- General Construction Induction Card (or White Card)
- Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention
- Asbestos Awareness
ACT workers in an occupation specified by WorkSafe ACT must also complete:
- Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials

Mandatory for anyone working with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials in the ACT. Gain essential compliance knowledge and hands-on experience in identifying a range of asbestos products and materials and how to report them. You'll learn how to meet WorkSafe ACT asbestos removal regulations confidently and safely.

Silica exposure prevention training
Statement of Attainment - Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention 10830NAT
Designed for workers handling materials like concrete, bricks, tiles or engineered stone. Learn to identify silica-containing products, understand health risks and apply safe work practices in line with legislation and national standards to minimise exposure.

White card training
Statement of Attainment - General Construction Induction (White Card Training)
Required to work on any construction site in Australia. This course covers essential WHS laws, common construction hazards and practical strategies to control risks, ensuring workers have the foundational safety knowledge to step on-site with confidence.

Working safely with asbestos containing materials training
Statement of Attainment - Course in Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials 11348NAT
Mandatory for anyone working with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials in the ACT. Gain the skills and knowledge to safely identify and work with asbestos containing materials and how to implement control measures prior to commencing work with asbestos.

Financial assistance
ACT Training Fund Authority (TFA) funding
The ACT TFA provides funding for people who are currently employed in the ACT construction industry and aims to support the entry of new people into building and construction. Employees, apprentices, employers, group training organisations, industry bodies and associations and registered training organisations are eligible to apply for funding. To be eligible you must be working in, or in connection with a company in the building and construction industry in the ACT. Training Fund Authority (TFA).
Fee-free construction
Fee-Free Construction is a jointly funded initiative of the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments offering eligible students the opportunity to complete a pre-apprenticeship short course in construction safety. This program will give you a taste of the trade industry and can prepare you for a trade apprenticeship.
