This course is designed to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to safely identify and work with asbestos containing materials in accordance with the unit of competency Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials.
Graduates will learn how to recognise asbestos containing products and implement appropriate control measures before commencing any tasks that could disturb asbestos fibres. These skills are essential for safely conducting work involving materials such as asbestos cement sheeting in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

On successful completion of this course a tradesperson will be able to identify asbestos containing materials and implement the necessary controls measures before performing work that may involve activity that will potentially liberate the asbestos fibres from their bonding material. This can typically occur when working with existing asbestos cement sheeting (AC sheet) or other asbestos containing material in and around residential dwellings, commercial premises and industrial facilities. |

Additional Information
Completion of this course will enable the graduate to obtain a Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials Competency Card from CIT that meets current Regulatory requirements.
Note that competency cards are not mandatory and the statement of attainment for completing Course in Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials 11348NAT is sufficient evidence that a person has completed the mandatory training required. WorkSafe ACT would accept a digital copy of the statement of attainment such as a scanned copy or photograph stored on a smart phone or tablet as being evidence of completion of this training.

You must be enrolled at least 24 hours prior to course commencement. If you are not enrolled you cannot attend the course. If you are 10 minutes late you may not be admitted to the course.

Entry Requirements
Entrants into the course 11348NAT Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials, applicants must hold:
- NAT11084001 Identify and report asbestos containing materials (or its successors), OR
- completed NAT11004001 Identify asbestos containing materials and follow Safety and reporting procedures (or its successors), OR
- completed a course of training approved for entry by the course development steering committee
And must meet one of the following criteria:
- Hold a trade-level qualification in construction or allied industry
- Be employed in an ancillary industry occupation where drilling or penetrating asbestos-containing materials (ACM) is incidental to their occupation, OR
- Be currently undertaking an apprenticeship in construction or allied trade
