Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

Duration:

 1 semester fulltime (approximately 25 hours per week) or part time to suit the learner.
Mandatory industry placement of minimum 120 hours required.
Additional 10 hours per week (approximately) individual learning such as online activities and assessment preparation and completion.

Additional Information

There are no prescribed training package requirements. CIT requires you to achieve the following:

Prior to enrolment, achieve a score of 3 in most categories in a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND) task provided by CIT.

Prior to enrolment, at the Information Session, students must demonstrate an expressed interest in working with older people in a residential setting. Applicants may be interviewed to demonstrate interest in complex client support, policies and procedures of residential aged care and genuine interest to work with diverse colleagues and clients.

Prior to placement, provide a National Police Check, ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration and evidence of required vaccinations. Details and instructions will be provided at the Information Session.

Reliable internet and device for online study, research, and assessment submission.

Entry Requirements

Open entry.

On entry, you will need to demonstrate appropriate literacy and numeracy skills by undertaking a literacy and numeracy assessment. You may be required to undertake additional Foundation Skills subjects to support your learning and success in this course.

If you are entering this course as a Trainee/Apprentice under the Australian Apprenticeships arrangements, you must be employed in the industry and you must register with an Apprentice Network Provider (ANP) prior to enrolment.

Skills Recognition

To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level course. Please visit Foundation Skills.
