Indigenous Scholarships

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Enrolled Nursing Scholarships

Value:

The value of each scholarship will be dependent upon the fees associated with the course of study, administration costs, and the purchase of the recommended textbooks.

Number Available: 2 per year, February and July each year

Eligibility Criteria:

  • candidates will have been offered a place in the Diploma of Nursing at the CIT and accepted enrolment
  • confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity
  • submission of a completed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Enrolled Nursing Scholarship Application form.

ACT Government - Grants and Scholarships

The ACT Government Grants page promotes a wide variety of ACT Government grants and scholarships for individuals, groups, and organisations.

Number Available: Multiple

These opportunities open at different times throughout the year, so it’s a good idea to check the page regularly if you are looking for support.

Aunty Agnes Shea Scholarships

Value: Varies. Full Scholarship including:

  • CERT III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, or Bachelor Early Childhood Education (Birth to 5 years)
  • ongoing support from the Scholarship team and broader Yerrabi Yurwang team to succeed in your studies.

Number Available: Multiple

Eligibility Criteria: Individuals will be eligible for the scholarships if they:

  • are Aboriginal (Confirmation of Aboriginality* is a requirement to receive this Scholarship)
  • fit one of the following the criteria:
    • be working in a Koori Preschool – priority target cohort, or
    • be working in an ECEC setting – secondary target cohort, or
    • be interested in working in the ACT’s ECEC sector – tertiary target cohort
  • work in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector in Canberra and/or live in Canberra
  • hold a WWVP Card, current NPC and the ability to pass the CYF Suitable Person Records Check
  • are able to enrol in an approved course within six months of receiving the offer of scholarship. (If evidence of enrolment is not provided, the offer will be withdrawn.)

Aurora Foundation - Indigenous Pathways Portal

The Indigenous Pathways Portal lists scholarship resources and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Number Available: Multiple

CIT Indigenous Scholarships

Value: Fee waiver of course and/or recognition fees only (CIT Commercial (full fee) or CIT Solutions courses are not eligible).

Number Available: Many

You must:

  1. Provide a Confirmation of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander decent form that contains a Common Seal stamp Provide proof of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander*
  2. You will be enrolled into the Study Support Units of Competencies, giving you access to tutorial assistance. You MUST attend and participate in a minimum of two of these classes.
  3. Be able to demonstrate commitment to study at CIT*
  4. Book and attend a Scholarship Interview if requested at CIT Yurauna

* A Confirmation of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander decent form MUST contain: the Common Seal from an Indigenous Organisation, the meeting resolution number and the signature of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Approving Officer or Board Member.

Students need to re-apply each semester. If re-applying, you must provide evidence of satisfactory academic performance.
