Overview
This course will provide you with knowledge and skills to process and interpret biometric and facial comparison information for forensic examination. This includes conducting biometric (face, hand, eye and/or voice) identification and verification. A biometric technician compares digital and biometric evidence to make a determination on an unknown persons’ identity. This includes providing advice on suitable technologies for organisational implementation.

Entry Requirements
It is recommended that applicants are currently working in a public or private sector agency that undertakes biometric work, are able to demonstrate proficient computer skills, and have an appropriate literacy and numeracy level.

Literacy Skills Information
We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. The term forensic is used to describe the collection of samples that may have legal implications, such as those collected to verify insurance claims or prove paternity for payment of maintenance.
All operations must comply with relevant standards, appropriate procedures and/or workplace requirements. Although a supervisor may not always be present, the technical officer will follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) that clearly describe the scope of permitted practice, including varying workplace/test procedures and communicating results to people outside the laboratory. |
