Overview

This course will provide students with an introduction to the biometric industry and gain basics skills to interpret and apply biometric information. This includes an understanding of biometric modalities such as face, hand, eye and/or voice to identify and analyse.

Duration:

CIT will deliver this course of training over a period of nine weeks part-time through a blended learning approach. Students should allocate an additional 2–4 hours per unit per week, for independent study, learning and assessment preparation.

While this course is delivered predominantly online, some practical sessions will require face-to-face attendance. Where required, these are identified in the subject guide for each unit.

Attendance of one face-to-face session is required in the following unit: NAT11324001 Apply and interpret biometric technology information.

Students that successfully complete the Statement of Attainment can continue their studies in the Certificate IV in Biometrics.

Skills Recognition

To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.       Description: This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to collect and interpret technical information on biometric systems to inform decision making. It requires the ability to understand diverse biometric systems for secure access and authentication of identity in the workplace. It includes the skills required to gather and interpret information and report on biometric workplace applications. This unit could be applied in, but is not limited to, the following workplaces: police services, border security agencies, security organisations, road traffic agencies, investigation units banking, and telecommunications. This unit applies to individuals who need to research, use, and interpret physiological or behavioral biometric systems and information for workplace implementation. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

      Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge to distinguish human physiological and behavioural characteristics for biometric authentication. It covers knowledge of general examination, interpretation, and communication of technical and practical information related to biometrics and biometric modalities. It requires the knowledge and ability to identify and analyse the various biometrics of the body including but not limited to modalities of the hand, eye, voice, and face to meet a workplace need. This includes assessing individual workplace requirements in accordance with industry standards, legislation, security, and privacy-related protocols. This unit could be applied in, but is not limited to, the following workplaces: police services, border security agencies, security organisations, road traffic agencies, investigation units, banking, and telecommunications. This unit applies to roles that involve the application of biometrics for implementation within the workplace. It does not apply to roles that involve the technical installation of biometric systems. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
