Overview
This short course will enable you to identify asbestos containing materials and implement the necessary control measures before performing work that may involve activity that will potentially liberate the asbestos fibres from their bonding material. This can typically occur when working with existing asbestos cement sheeting (AC sheet) or other asbestos containing material in and around residential dwellings and commercial premises.

ACT workers likely to encounter materials containing asbestos are required to complete the mandated 10675NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness that came into effect in the ACT on June 30 2014. Further to this, recent amendments to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 mandate that people in occupations that are likely to work with asbestos containing materials (ACMs) must complete an approved training course in working safely with asbestos. Persons in an occupation specified in the list available here are required to complete training in 10852NAT - Course in Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials. The amendments will commence on 1 July 2019
Entry Requirements
Entrants to the course in Working Safely with Asbestos Containing materials must have:
- completed ASBIRA001 Identify and report asbestos containing materials (10675NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness) or its successor
and
- have completed a trade level qualification in the construction industry
or
- be employed in an ancillary industry occupation where drilling or penetrating ACM would be incidental to the applicants occupation
or
- be undertaking an apprenticeship in a construction or allied trade

To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Literacy Skills Information
We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
