Studio22 a success at CIT
Published: 27 Sep 2022
Over 70 school-aged and mature students were recently given the opportunity to experience what it is like to study and work in the creative industries at the Canberra Institute of Technology Studio22 event hosted at CIT Reid.
Students spent a day at CIT, where they met our professional staff, used our first-class industry standard facilities, and found out what it is like to be a CIT student.
Students participated in workshops on photography, graphic design, visual arts, fashion, interior design, music and sound production, and screen and media.
Julianne Abbot, Creative and Design Industries CIT Head of Department, said it was great to see so many students exploring their options when it comes to study and training.
"The workshops on offer gave students a great taste of the sorts of opportunities available in a range of different creative areas, and the types of training and skills development they would receive while studying at CIT," Julianne said.
In the fashion workshops, students worked on illustrations using a variety of different media, as well as learning how to develop their own designs. Interior design students looked at the key issues to consider when creating a design, such as lighting and space.
In visual arts, participants tried their hand at blind contour drawing and building a narrative about their works, while in graphic design they had the opportunity to create their own magazine covers.
The photography and the screen and media workshops also gave students some hands-on experience by showing them what it was like to work in those industries. The photography participants set up a photoshoot, while the screen and media students planned out and filmed a drama scene.
Finally, the music and sound production workshop saw students take part in a virtual soundcheck and mixing for a live performance.
All-in-all, Julianne said the event was a very informative experience for students, and that the team at CIT Creative and Design were already looking forward to hosting the event again next year.
