New CIT Board Chair and Deputy Board Chair announced

Today, the Minister for Skills, Training and Industrial Relations, Michael Pettersson, announced the appointment of Mr Thomas Rogers as the new Chair of the CIT Board, and Professor Kylie Walker as the new Deputy Chair.

Mr Rogers joins CIT with more than 30 years of experience across education, training, governance and national administration. As Australia’s Electoral Commissioner from 2014 to 2024, he led significant reforms to strengthen transparency, capability and public trust, with the AEC recognised in 2023 as the nation’s most trusted federal institution. He is an Officer of the Order of Australia and a recipient of the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies Lifetime Achievement Award.

Professor Walker is a respected national leader in science, technology and innovation. She has played a key role in shaping major national initiatives, including the Australian Space Agency, and STEM programs supporting women and under‑represented groups. Her advocacy has advanced national investment in science, Indigenous health equity and research infrastructure. She has been recognised in the AFR 100 Women of Influence and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Charles Sturt University.

In announcing the appointments, the Minister said that Mr Rogers and Professor Walker bring exceptional leadership, deep expertise and a strong commitment to public service. Their appointments will help guide CIT through an ambitious period of growth and transformation.

The Minister also sincerely thanked Ms Lundy for her dedicated leadership and her stewardship of the new Woden Campus development, noting how her work has positioned CIT strongly for the years ahead.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Kate Lundy, whose term as Chair will conclude on 30 March, for her strong leadership, governance and guidance throughout a significant period of change for CIT.

Mr Rogers commences as Board Chair on 31 March 2026, with Professor Walker to begin her term as Deputy Chair on 1 September 2026.

These board appointments mark an important next chapter for CIT as we continue to build a skilled and adaptable workforce that supports Canberra’s growth and aligns with the vision of CBR 2030.
