Media and Music students collaborate for Live@417 music project

Published: 22 Jun 2026

Media and Music students recently joined forces in the CIT Woden media TV studio to produce live studio music videos as part of the Live@417 music project.

The project, which is based on the famous Live From Abbey Road show, provided the screen and media students the opportunity to experience filming a band in a multi-camera environment, while the music students performed live and mixed audio.

Graphics, Entertainment, Media, and Music Head of Department Mark Webber said that the event was just one of the ways that CIT students gain real world skills that are valued by employers.

“It’s not about producing something that’s perfect a couple of times a year,” Mr Webber said. “The outcome is that students don’t just complete one or two projects — they create many works across the year, receive feedback, and use that to improve.”

The Live@417 project also allowed students to use the state-of-the-art facilities in the CIT media TV studio.

“We’re very fortunate to have a new building at the Woden campus, including a TV studio purpose-built for our course,” Mr Webber said. “Students in the program now really do have access to the best of everything.”

Martin Prosser was one of the screen and media students who took part in the event and found that the support from his educators helped him work as part of production team and improve his technical skills in a real-life environment.

“It was pretty hectic,” Martin said. “I got to work with the dollies, and we had a big rig set up the back which could pan back and forth. That was a lot of fun to do, and we had an energetic band playing who were interacting with the cameras which was a lot of fun to work with.”

Madeline Balogh was another of the screen and media students who took part, and she had the opportunity to operate one of the handheld cameras.

“It was a bit tiring on my arms, but it was really cool doing that,” Madeline said. “It’s a cool experience for the music students, performing on camera in a live event, and for us practicing.”
