CIT Commences Sustainable Workforce Program
Published: 03 Aug 2026
The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is commencing a Sustainable Workforce Program to support the organisation's long-term sustainability and ensure it remains focused on delivering high-quality education and training for the ACT community.
Like many public sector organisations, CIT is managing ongoing financial and operational pressures. The program is intended to help ensure CIT remains financially sustainable while maintaining a strong focus on teaching, learning and student outcomes.
Student learning and educational outcomes remain CIT's highest priority. The Board and Executive are committed to supporting students throughout this process and CIT is working to ensure students can continue their studies without disruption, including through the delivery of classes, assessments and student support services.
A central part of this program will be an Expression of Interest process for voluntary redundancies for eligible permanent staff. This process is entirely voluntary and expressions of interest will be considered against CIT’s operational and educational requirements. No staff member will be required to apply, and nobody will be made compulsorily redundant through this program.
Consultation with staff and unions has commenced and will occur in accordance with the relevant Enterprise Agreement provisions.
The CIT Board has a responsibility to students, staff, industry partners and ACT taxpayers to ensure the organisation remains sustainable and well positioned to meet future education and workforce needs. The Sustainable Workforce Program is intended to support that long-term objective while maintaining CIT's focus on the delivery of quality education and training, delivering on the CIT ten-year strategic plan.
