High risk work licences

Thank you for considering CIT as your high risk work (HRW) licensing training provider.

We offer a range of high risk training programs for you and your staff. We deliver these courses under nationally recognised units of competency. Successful completion will allow you to apply for a HRW licence from Worksafe ACT.

Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, you can only carry out specified classes of high risk work if:

  • you hold a HRW licence, or
  • you are formally enrolled with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and are working towards gaining a competency through supervised training.

You must renew your HRW licence every five years. Please see the Worksafe ACT website for licensing requirements, guidelines and registrations.

High risk work licence

Follow the steps below to get your HRW licence. It is important to know we do not issue HRW licences. We deliver the training you are required to complete before you can apply for a HRW licence.

1.Register with us:

Choose a course from our training suite below and complete the ‘register your interest’ form. We welcome both individual and group bookings.

Please note this form is not an enrolment, it is an expression of interest. Once you submit the form we will contact you to give you more information and to help you enrol.

Course dates are subject to change according to course demand. If course dates do change, we will let registered applicants know.

2.Check your eligibility for Training Fund Authority (TFA) rebates:

The ACT Building and Construction Industry Training Fund Authority (TFA) is the statutory body that funds training for eligible ACT building and construction industry workers.

We offer reduced fees on all of our approved courses for people who are eligible for TFA funding.

If you think you are eligible for TFA funding, please complete the CIT TFA Declaration of Eligibility form (PDF 148Kb). You do not need to apply through TFA yourself, we will do this for you. All you need to do is complete the form and return it to us with your CIT enrolment form. If you are eligible for the rebate, we will only charge you the reduced fee.

There is more information about TFA rebate eligibility on the TFA website. We and TFA take fraudulent declarations very seriously. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact TFA directly on (02) 6262 5630.

3. Complete our training and apply for a High Risk Work licence

After you have completed your training we will give you a Statement of Attainment for your accredited course or unit of competency. You can then apply for a HRW licence through Access Canberra.

If you have any questions about HRW licensing, please refer to Access Canberra's HRW licensing FAQ.

If you are in doubt in regards to your eligibility please contact TFA directly on (02) 6262 5630.

If your employer pays your fees

If your employer is paying your fees you need to complete the High Risk Release of Information form (PDF 94Kb). This form only allows us to release your invoice & academic information to your employer.

We will generate the invoice in your name. If your employer wants the invoice in the company name, they need to email HighRiskandRenewables@cit.edu.au

It is important to know that it is your responsibility to make sure your employer pays your fees.

Timetable

Our high risk training calendar (PDF 194Kb) has the dates and times for all our HRW licence courses.
