Overview

This course provides fundamental skills in Networking, Networked Operating Systems, and computer hardware and maintenance. You will be introduced to virtual and physical environments and use a range of industry technologies, and safe working practices.

The program engages learners with the CISCO Network Academy, and you learn how to create a peer-to-peer network incorporating wired and virtual networked environments, including network protocols, and packet tracing.

It will enable you to have a further understanding of IP Addressing, Active Directory Infrastructure, group policies, and disaster recovery and backup.

You will also gain an understanding of how computers function, computer components, and hands-on experience in computer maintenance and upgrades.

Completion of the statement of attainment provides all relevant technical skills and knowledge to allow students to undertake the Certificate IV in Information technology, and will assist students to choose a specialist pathway.

Duration:

 This course is delivered part time over one (1) semester (approx. 9 hours per week).

It is expected you will spend approximately the same number of hours in private study to practice skills and apply new knowledge.

Available class times will vary, with evening classes to support students returning to the workforce.

Classes are completed on campus, face to face and attendance is required. There are dedicated workshops available to support students in understanding and applying the practical application of skills learnt.

Enrolment fees for this course are based on the costs per subject as indicated below. The total course cost may vary depending on the choice of elective subjects or if subjects are attempted more than once. Subject costs identified as Standard are partially subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible students.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
