Anita Jorritsma

Anita-JorritsmCIT Teacher, Dental

Anita was born and raised in Canberra, having lived here most of her life. Since falling into an after-school job working with teeth she hasn’t looked back. Outside of her career, Anita enjoys gardening, reading, cooking, bee keeping, and has a love for all animals. She is passionate about helping people not only in the dental industry, but as a volunteer with the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) night patrol for almost 10 years.

Working in the dental industry was something that Anita has always wanted to do, and she has been working in the industry for the last 23 years. In 1997 she completed the dental assisting certificate and in 1998 the dental radiography certificate, both at CIT Bruce. Having worked in the dental industry for many years, Anita then moved to Adelaide to study her Bachelor of Oral Health in 2006. Three years later Anita returned to Canberra working as an oral health therapist in various private practices. Anita loves working one-to-one with patients, getting to know them and making a positive difference to their health.

Anita's career has come full circle after studying at CIT in 1997, to then working at CIT from 2014 as the Dental Assisting Coordinator. In this role Anita coordinates the dental assisting course and dental assisting placements. Anita has been teaching in the course since she started, which is the part of her job that she gets the most satisfaction out of. She loves being part of the student’s journey where they gain confidence and grow into dental professionals then becoming her colleagues in the dental industry.

Anita has been part of many changes in the dental course since she started, such as working to create a placement program for students, producing and delivering new content for updated training packages, commencing two intakes per year for students, and seeing the simulated dental lab upgraded to a more vibrant and modern space.

What does a dental qualification from CIT offer students?

"The chance to work in a fast paced and caring environment. Opportunities for patient care and working alongside dental professionals providing dental health care."
