Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) helps shape the futures of 20,000 students every year, and the whole community is invited to experience the vast career pathway opportunities available - by visiting CIT Open Day this Friday 17 November.

CIT Open Day will include interactive workshops, exhibits, facility tours, information booths and industry collaborations - as well as live entertainment - at CIT's three major campuses in Reid, Bruce and Fyshwick from 2-7pm.

CIT's Executive Director, Education Futures and Students, Josephine Andersen urged Canberrans to be curious and explore the opportunities for lifelong learning now available through CIT and vocational education and training.

"CIT has opportunities for everyone," Ms Andersen said. "Our student community includes school-leavers looking to acquire the skills for their first jobs. We have professionals wanting to up-skill and stay on trend with industry, either for job security or progression. We also support a lot of career-changers who want to continue working but study flexibly as they transition to something new.

"There are more than 200 qualifications available at CIT, in short and long course options, from traditional trades to emerging and in-demand industries such as renewables and cyber security."

"The Australian Government has identified that 9-out-of-10 jobs of the future will require post-school qualifications, so the focus on quality vocational education and training that we deliver at CIT has never been stronger."

"Our education and training at CIT is purposeful. Our students get real industry skills that lead to jobs. More than 90% of our students in 2022 obtained employment or continued with their education journey - almost 5% more than the national average."

CIT Open Day will provide a fun and informative exploration of education opportunities. See cooking demonstrations and learn how to style hair, apply make-up, and provide massages at CIT Reid. Tour CIT's innovative Hybrid Electric Vehicle Laboratory and use a welding simulator at CIT Fyshwick. Come and try paving and horticulture at CIT Bruce, and see the full breadth of CIT's facilities, from the health and forensic science labs, to the various construction workshops and high-risk training infrastructure.

It will also be one of the first opportunities to apply for limited Fee-Free TAFE places in 2024, with CIT to provide 600 Fee-Free TAFE places every semester for the next three years.

"Come along to CIT Open Day, you never know what inspiration it could provide for you or others in your life," Ms Andersen said. "As well as prospective students, we'll be welcoming parents, industry partners, even those who might be interested in a switching their skills to a career in teaching and training with CIT."

"Without even realising it, your day-to-day life is touched by the vocational training and skills of our graduates across a range of industries, from the barista making your coffee to the trades building the homes we live in."

Register your attendance in advance on the CIT website, here, and receive a welcome pack on arrival with merchandise, special offers from CIT commercial services and essential information to help guide your study choices. Interact with CIT staff and teachers, as well as industry representatives who can provide contemporary insights in their fields of expertise.
