Computer and laptop access

Computer facilities (PCs and laptops) are available for use in each library during opening hours. You need to be a CIT student or staff member to book laptops or use computers.

CIT Library computers

There are PCs available at all CIT campuses. CIT Woden has two Macs available to support design software. To check what software is available on library computers, contact CIT Library.

After-hours access

After-hours computer access is available at CIT Woden, CIT Bruce and CIT Gungahlin. Check the Computers 24-hour and after-hours access page for more information.

CIT laptops

Any CIT student can borrow one laptop at a time, as well as other educational equipment.

How do I borrow a laptop?

Laptops are available for loan from the library commencing at opening time, with the last loan due for return 30 minutes prior to closing.

Use of laptops

Laptops are available for students to borrow and use within the campus, for day-use only. Any work must be saved to a USB stick or thumb drive or a cloud-based account. Any work saved to a laptop will be deleted. Chargers and other equipment can be borrowed with the laptop if required.

Student responsibility

Laptops and other loaned equipment are to be used within CIT premises. No food or drink is to be consumed near laptops. Students should report any problems or faults with laptops to Library staff. Where loss or damage to a laptop on loan to a student occurs due to negligence (determined by the Executive Director Enabling Partnerships and Services ), the student is required to reimburse CIT for the repair or replacement of the laptop. Students are reminded that access to CIT's internet and email services is subject to the Student Code of Conduct and the Acceptable ICT Use Policy.

Computer laboratories

Computer laboratories are available for use by all CIT students. Each of the computer laboratories is monitored, some by closed circuit cameras, 24 hours a day.

The following rules ensure that the laboratories are in full operation for all students.

  • You must carry your CITCard for identification and access when using 24-hour computer laboratories.
  • You must exercise due care when operating equipment and follow the correct safe operating procedures.
  • All software on the system is copy protected. You may copy software only when specifically asked to do so as part of your course. Any breach of copyright is regarded as a serious offence and may result in your exclusion from CIT.
  • If there are spare computers available in a laboratory while a class is being conducted, it is customary for students to be able to access these. The agreement is that these students will make no demands on the teacher and use printers minimally.
  • Paper dust is a major factor in the failure of printing equipment. Please keep the area near printers tidy at all times. Paper recycling bins are provided for your used and unwanted paper.
