Borrow

You can use your CITCard to borrow items from the library. If you don’t have a CITCard, visit Student Services or apply online via the CITCard application form.

You can borrow at any CIT Library location.

Loans

Staff and Students can borrow a maximum of 20 items

Item Loan Period
Books, journals, DVDs etc 28 Days
Short Loans In Library (4 hours), 2 or 7 days

Loan periods may vary for some items

Return

You can return your items by placing them in the return chute at any CIT Library during opening hours. After hours return chutes are available at Reid and Bruce Libraries.

Request

If the item you want is on loan or at another location, you can request it in Find it at CIT

  • Click on the link for the title
  • click on 'Request this Item'
  • follow prompts
  • An email will be sent to your preferred email account when the item is available.

Overdues and Banner holds

Library borrowers are responsible for returning or renewing library items by their due date. Students with items more than 7 days overdue will have a 'Library hold' placed on their Banner record. The Library hold is removed once all items are returned or the replacement cost is paid.

A 'Library hold' prevents a student from:

  • Borrowing and further library loans
  • Graduating and accessing their academic transcript

Lost or Damaged Items

Library borrowers are liable for the cost to replace items that are lost or damaged.  GST will be added to the replacement fee.

Interlibrary loans

Staff and student can request items held by other Australian libraries for a fee.

Reciprocal and Community members

CIT Library has reciprocal agreements with other Australian educational institutions. Students and staff from these institutions may be able to borrow from the CIT Library. Community members may join the CIT Library for an annual fee.
