Statement of Attainment Licence to Perform Dogging

Overview

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely perform dogging work. Dogging consists of the application of slinging techniques to move a load, including the selection and inspection of lifting gear, and the directing of a plant operator in the movement of a load when the load is out of sight of the operator.

Dogging work is conducted in the construction industry and other industries where loads are lifted and moved using cranes or hoists.

Licensing Information

Competence in this unit does not in itself result in a licence. A licence is obtained after competence is assessed under applicable Commonwealth, state or territory work health and safety (WHS) regulations.

The National Assessment Instrument (NAI) is the mandated assessment for the relevant licence as detailed in this unit.

Successful participants are required to lodge an application for a High Risk Work Licence with the regulatory body in the State/Territory they complete training in within 60 days from the issue date of the Statement of Attainment.

Additional Information

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

During training and assessment, you must wear suitable PPE for construction environments. As a minimum, this includes:

  • high-visibility clothing
  • safety footwear
  • hard hat.

CIT training logbook

You will receive a CIT logbook to record practical training completed at CIT and, where applicable, in the workplace.

The logbook is provided as a learning reinforcement tool.

If workplace practice occurs, all entries must be verified and signed by a qualified workplace supervisor who holds the relevant High Risk Work Licence.

All workplace logbook activities must comply with relevant WHS regulations and standards.

The Statement of Attainment will only be issued after the logbook has been submitted and verified by the CIT assessor.

Entry Requirements

Most students are 18 years or older. If you’re 17, you may also enrol. To be eligible for a High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL), you must turn 18 within 60 days of the Statement of Attainment being issued.

You must also:

  • be physically capable of performing dogging tasks, including lifting and carrying loads, applying slinging techniques, working at heights where required, and safely operating around plant and equipment
  • demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to communicate effectively in the workplace and to read and interpret workplace procedures, manufacturer instructions, and safety signage
  • have basic numeracy skills to estimate and measure loads (We’ll assess these skills before you enrol to confirm your suitability.)
  • where applicable, provide evidence that you have met all entry requirements before starting training.

Skills Recognition

To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level course. Please visit Foundation Skills.

Transition Information

Qualifications at CIT are regularly updated or replaced to meet current industry needs and maximise your employment opportunities. If this occurs while you are part way through a qualification, you may need to vary your learning to meet the new national requirements. CIT will aim to make this as smooth as possible for you.

Subject Cancellations/Changes

To ensure positive outcomes for all students, CIT may need to cancel or change classes at short notice. CIT will make every effort to inform students as soon as changes are made and will also make every effort to offer alternative arrangements for students to meet the requirements of the subject and complete their qualification. In an unfortunate instance when this cannot be met, you will receive a full refund. Please ensure you maintain current contact details via CIT Self Service or by contacting CIT Student Services at infoline@cit.edu.au.
