Asbestos Training

Hosted at our designated asbestos training facility at CIT Bruce, you will be taught asbestos best practice in our purpose built simulated environment. Gain hands-on experience and knowledge under the guidance of industry experts including a former ACT safety commissioner, and become compliant with WorkSafe ACT asbestos removal regulations and requirements.

  • Asbestos Awareness
    • This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skill for individuals to be able to identify a range of asbestos products and materials and be able to report the material to the relevant person.

      Cost:
      $190 or $110 for Training Fund Authority (TFA) rebate eligible students. Cost for customised delivery on your premises or outside the ACT is available on request.
      Please note:
      You must be enrolled at least 24 hours prior to course commencement. If you are not enrolled you cannot attend the course. If you are 10 minutes late you may not be admitted to the course. This is due to the physical distancing rules being in place.
      If you believe you are eligible for the TFA rebate, you will need to contact CIT before enrolling as we will apply the rebate before enrolment. The rebate is not available after the course has been completed. You do not need to apply for TFA rebate in enrolling at this stage. You will be contacted prior to the course being delivered regarding the TFA rebate.
      Letters of attendance will be provided however these will only be available to students whose payment has been received by CIT prior to commencement of the course.
  • Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials
    • CIT offers training which was developed through an industry consultation process, this course aims to bridge the gap between asbestos awareness and asbestos removal, supervision and assessment.

      This training is ideal for tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, carpenters and refrigeration mechanics who need to interact, penetrate or drill safely with asbestos containing materials.

Pre-requisites:

CPCCOHS1001A - 'Work safely in the construction industry' is a pre-requisite for CPCCDE3014A - 'Remove Non-Friable Asbestos' and CPCCBC4051A - 'Supervise Asbestos Removal', you will not be eligible to enrol unless you have attained this competency. CIT offers CPCCOHS1001A - 'Work safely in the construction industry' as a 6 hour course fortnightly.

Course location:

The asbestos training courses are located at CIT Bruce in either, D Block, Room DL14 or A Block, A207. Please refer to the location details above.

  • Training Fund Authority funding
    • If you're employed in the ACT construction industry, you may be eligible for funding from the ACT Building and Construction Industry Training Fund Authority (TFA).
    • We offer reduced fees on all our approved courses for people who are eligible for TFA funding.
    • You're eligible for TFA funding if you:
    • - work for a company or organisation that is substantially (at least 80%) engaged in carrying out work described in the Schedule of Work in the Act, within the ACT, and
    • - undertake training that meets all the requirements outlined in approved RTOs/courses.
    • If you don't meet the standard eligibility requirements but have special circumstances, the TFA may still find you eligible.
    • If you think you are eligible for TFA funding, we will apply for the rebate for you. You don't need to apply yourself.
