Overview

This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restriction in range of motion (ROM). Therapists may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work in a simulated clinical environment as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. These hours will be completed at CIT Fit and Well Student Massage Clinic

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Duration:

Students will finish this course in two semesters (12 months) full-time, plus practical application in simulated workplace environments (duration will vary depending on the individual's knowledge, experience and accrual of required simulated workplace hours). Scheduled classes will take place 3 days per week, approximately 9 hours per day with some classes taking place after hours.

There are timetabled online learning sessions on 1-2 days per week, approximately 5 hours per week and optional tutorial support sessions scheduled each week. There is an expectation you will need to complete 1-2 hours additional study each week in your own time.

Part-time equivalent will take approximately 18 months (3 semesters)

The total course cost may vary depending on the choice of elective subjects or if subjects are attempted more than once. There are no specific training package requirements, but CIT requires the following:

You must be 17 years or older to enrol in the Diploma of Remedial Massage due to the nature of the job role.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
