Overview

This qualification reflects the role of massage therapists who provide general health maintenance treatments. You will be able to apply therapeutic relaxation massage including basic health assessment and treatment. You may work within a clinic or in a larger health service; in an aged care facility; in a spa facility; or in a palliative care facility.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 80 hours of work in a simulated clinical environment as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. These hours will be completed at CIT Fit and Well Student Massage Clinic.

Duration:

Full-time study load over 1 full semester with remaining study load to be part-time face to face and online training. Students will finish this course in two semesters (12 months) full-time, including the practical application in simulated workplace environments (duration will vary depending on the individual's knowledge, experience and accrual of required simulated workplace hours).

Scheduled classes will take place 3 days per week, approximately 9 hours per day during semester 1, with some classes taking place after hours. Semester 2 classes will take place 1-2 days per week approximately 4 hours per day.

There are timetabled online learning sessions and optional tutorial support sessions scheduled each week Part-time equivalent will take approximately 18 months (3 semesters)

Enrolment fees for this course are based on the costs per subject as indicated below. The total course cost may vary depending on the choice of elective subjects or if subjects are attempted more than once. Subject costs identified as Standard are partially subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible students.

There are no specific training package requirements, but CIT requires the following:

You must be 17 years or older to enrol in the Certificate IV Massage Therapy due to the nature of the job role.

To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course.
