The Diploma of Remedial Massage HLT52021 prepares you for a rewarding career as a remedial massage therapist, supporting clients with chronic pain and movement restriction.

You’ll develop practical, evidence-informed skills to assess clients, plan treatments and deliver effective remedial massage in line with contemporary industry practice. The course has a strong clinical focus, emphasising pain management, functional assessment and treatment within professional health and wellbeing settings. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a real-world clinical environment at the CIT Remedial Massage Clinic, working with real clients under the expert guidance of industry-experienced teachers.

Throughout the course, your learning will be progressively developed through a combination of supervised clinical practice, structured assessments and applied learning activities that reflect real industry expectations. You’ll graduate with the confidence, capability and professional readiness to work independently, as part of a multimodal clinical team or within a broader health service, applying your skill in line with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

  • When do applications open?

    • Applications are expected to open on 2 May 2026 for the Semester 2 intake (commencing July 2026). If you’ve registered your interest, you’ll be contacted as soon as applications open.

  • If I register now, do I have to apply?

  • If I register, am I guaranteed entry?

      Admission is subject to application and will be determined based on eligibility, availability and course viability. Places in the Diploma of Remedial Massage are limited, and eligible applications will be assessed on a first‑in, first‑served basis once applications open.

      Please note that the course will only proceed if a minimum number of enrolments is achieved. If this intake does not reach the required minimum, the course may not run in Semester 2, 2026. If this occurs and you’ve previously registered or applied for the course, you will be notified as soon as possible prior to the commencement of Semester 2.

  • What are the entry requirements for this course?

    • There are no formal training‑package entry requirements for the Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52021). You must be 17 years or older to enrol in the Diploma of Remedial Massage due to the nature of the job role.

      Applications for admission can be made by:

      • Australian or New Zealand citizens, permanent Australian residents, or holders of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa (domestic prospective students)
      • non-domestic prospective students on an eligible visa or an eligible temporary visa holder, including those on a visa bridging towards a permanent visa can enrol as an eligible non-domestic student.

      To support success in the course, CIT recommends that students:

      • have completed Year 12 or have relevant industry or life experience
      • have a moderate level of digital literacy and good organisational skills to manage online learning and assessments.

      Before or at enrolment, all students complete Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessments. This helps to identify any learning support that may be helpful during the course. Students who need additional support can still enrol and will be guided to appropriate foundation and student support services.

  • What are the eligibility requirements for this course?

    • As part of the course, students must be willing and able to complete a minimum of 200 hours of supervised clinical practice in a simulated clinical environment.

      If you have previous study or relevant work experience, you may also be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

  • Can I study this course part-time?

    • Yes. The course is available full‑time or part‑time, offering flexibility for those with work or personal commitments.

  • Is financial support available?

  • How is the course delivered?

    • The course can be studied part- or full-time, and is delivered through a blended delivery model, combining:

      • face-to-face classes
      • supervised practical clinical training
      • supported self‑paced online learning for selected theory components.

      This approach allows you to balance study with work and personal commitments while still gaining practical, hands-on experience to prepare you for industry.

  • How many days a week will I need to attend classes?

    • Study typically requires up to 25 hours per week, including a mix of scheduled classes, clinic sessions, and self‑paced online study. Semester 2 class timetables will be available from May to enable applicants to make informed decisions about their enrolment.

  • How much practical training is included?

    • You’ll complete a minimum of 200 hours of supervised practical training during your program. These hours are embedded throughout the course and allow you to work with real clients under the guidance of industry-experienced teachers and industry professionals.

      This supervised clinical experience is a core part of the qualification and helps you develop the confidence and capability required for professional practice.

      Many private health funds and professional associations require a minimum number of supervised clinical hours as part of their eligibility criteria for remedial massage provider recognition. While completing the required clinical hours in this course supports eligibility, provider recognition is assessed separately by professional associations and health funds and is not automatically granted on completion.

  • Where will the practical training take place?

    • Your practical training will take place in CIT’s Remedial Massage Clinic, which serves real clients, mirrors real industry settings and uses professional equipment. This environment helps you build confidence and apply your skills in realistic conditions before entering the workforce. Subject to availability, students will also be offered up to 60 hours of placement in industry, working with accredited experienced remedial massage therapists to hone their practical skills.

  • Can this course provide credit towards university study in a related field?

    • Yes, a qualification completed at CIT may be eligible for credit towards university study, depending on the course and the university.

      CIT has established pathway and credit-transfer arrangements with a range of universities, including the University of Canberra.

      Credit and entry arrangements are assessed by the university, and outcomes vary depending on the degree, the subjects studied and the university’s requirements. While some CIT diplomas are part of formal guaranteed pathway arrangements, others may still be considered for credit on a case by casebasis.

      Students are encouraged to check pathway details with CIT and the relevant university before applying.

  • Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

    • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be available if you have relevant prior study or industry experience. RPL is assessed individually, and evidence will be required.

  • Does this qualification meet the eligibility requirements for getting a private health provider number?

    • The Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52021) meets the minimum educational requirement commonly required by private health funds for remedial massage. However, completing this qualification does not automatically guarantee eligibility for a private health provider number.

      Graduates may be eligible to apply for provider recognition through a professional association, subject to health fund and association eligibility criteria.
