This skill set is designed to upskill individuals working in community services or health settings who support people experiencing alcohol and other drug (AOD) related challenges.
You will strengthen your ability to provide safe, person-centred support across a range of service environments, building on your existing experience in the sector.
This course will help develop your practical expertise in assessment, brief intervention, and treatment planning using evidence-based approaches, while enhancing your communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
You will also refine your ability to apply harm minimisation and recovery-oriented practices when working with individuals, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
This skill set supports you to further develop your capability to respond to complex and changing client needs, strengthening your practice within diverse community and health contexts.

The program is delivered over a 10 week period with an overall duration of 190 hours, comprising: Structured learning, including live facilitated workshops delivered face to face and/or online, skills practice, simulated activities and role plays, case discussions, and assessment guidance, Self-guided eLearn modules, readings, interactive activities, reflective tasks, workplace based application Assessment activities, including workplace application of skills and evidence collection, and completion of written assessment tasks. |

Completion of this Skill Set also provides a direct pathway into the CHC43215 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, with credit transfer for the four units of competency included.
Entry Requirements
Training Package:
This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:
Hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field
or
- Have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process
or
Have substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.
RTO Entry requirements:
- Learners must be currently employed in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector or a related community services field within the ACT workforce.
- Applicants not currently working in the AOD sector may be considered only through ATODA referral or industry partnership agreement, ensuring appropriate workplace learning opportunities are available.
Skills Recognition
To study any course at CIT (excluding non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Literacy Skills Information
We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 4 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level course. Please visit Foundation Skills.
