The Yurauna Centre is a community focused multi-functional Centre that brings people together.
Yurauna is an informal gathering place that provides opportunity for people to come together to find real solutions. Aboriginal staff are available to advise and assist regarding:
- Program and Careers Advice
- Academic and tutorial support
- Literacy and Numeracy Assessments
- Academic and tutorial support
- Enrolment procedures
- Equity issues
- Advocacy and mediation
- Time management
- Referrals to other support services within CIT and the ACT region
- Student BBQ - provided by CIT student services
- Outreach services
Staff are available to provide support in a number of areas. Our goal is for the student to reach their full potential. Support is provided in partnership with the student so they may accomplish their chosen goals.
Below is a guide to some of the services provided, but are not limited to. Potential students are encouraged to contact the Yurauna Centre to discuss options.
The Yurauna Centre provides a letter of support for Indigenous people applying for enrolment into CIT programs across all Centres - includes postal and direct enrolment. The letter of support is a negotiated place into a CIT program. Yurauna Centre staff assesses potential students' educational abilities including career aspirations and career plans.

CIT Indigenous Scholarships
The CIT Indigenous Scholarships were introduced by CIT in 2003. Scholarships cover program fees only. To apply for a scholarship:
- You must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (you maybe requested to provide proof)
- Enrolled in a mainstream program and
- Have a commitment to study
Includes full-time, part time and flexible delivery study. Also, includes Recognition of Prior Learning fees. Scholarship applications can be downloaded from the Scholarship page or contact the Yurauna Centre on (02) 6207 3309.
The ACT Government provides a limited amount of funds for CIT Students who are in financial need and who are committed to study. These funds are used for student fees and books/equipment essential for the course.
Tutorial Support is available for Certificate III programs and above. This can be set in place early in the semester and is negotiated with Yurauna Centre.
Yurauna works in partnership with a range of Employment Service Providers for the best outcomes for students i.e. Traineeships, Apprenticeships, Public Service Entry - ACT and Australian Governments, Private Sector, Industry etc.
ABSTUDY is available for all CIT programs. Eligibility requirements for fulltime or part time workloads are available by contacting Centrelink directly.
Cultural Awareness Training
The Yurauna Centre provides Cultural Education to all staff and students within CIT. Training can be tailored to your interest - cultural heritage, arts, community development, childcare, health, education.
