CIT media students were thanked by the Australian Governor General yesterday for their special contribution to the Australia Day Awards last year.
In their first visit to CIT, Governor General Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove toured CIT Bruce, stopping to meet media students to thank them for live streaming online the 2016 Australian Day Award Investiture Ceremony last year.
Australian Day Awards are announced on January 26 but the ceremony where the Governor General officially presents awards to each individual honoured is held later.
CIT media students last year provided an important service to the nation by live streaming the Investiture Ceremony, allowing all Australians, and especially family, friends and colleagues to witness those being honoured receive their awards for notable service to the community or acts of bravery in the past year.
Sir Peter's special interest in CIT’s leading forensic science program saw Their Excellencies tour its specialised teaching facility that includes CIT’s crime scene house - a first in Australia that allows students to gain hands on experience gathering evidence at confronting and complex crime scenes.
CIT building, construction and carpentry students and teachers also met with the Governor General.
CIT media students are looking forward to helping the Governor General out again at the coming 2017 Australian Day Award Investiture Ceremony.
