CIT Students Win Awards in Headspace Art Space competition

Published: 03 Nov 2016

Congratulations to four CIT students winning awards from the Headspace Art Space competition.

Students were given prizes at a low key presentation held on Tuesday 1 November 2016. Pictured above you will see two of the four winning students and CIT Student Support Manager Rhonda Fuzzard, CIT Student Support Youth Support (Art Teacher)  Kate Reckord and Headspace ACT representative Seija Gordon.

As part of Mental Health week and Headspaces first annual Headspace day, Headspace ran the first "Headspace Art Space Competition". CIT Student Support Art Group had been running all year and with little notice of the event decided to participate in the art competition.

CIT Student Support Art Group runs at CIT and is managed by Kate Reckord (Youth Advisor, CIT Student Support). It is a small group of six to eight students each week producing different styled artwork to express emotion and feelings through art.

From the small group of students, CIT produced four winning pieces the competition. This year the students entered silk dyed art and marble paintings in the competition, the group is in discussion about increasing their variety of artwork to include 3D art such as clay sculptures for next year's competition.

Due to the huge success of this CIT Art Group we are looking to expand our numbers coming into 2017 to help students relieve stress of study by producing art work.

Thank you to all students and staff who participated in this year's competition and a massive thanks to ACT Headspace for running such a successful and meaningful competition.
