As a "Fridgie" you'll gain the knowledge and skills to work
specifically as a refrigeration and air conditioning technician in the domestic, commercial or industrial industry sector. This trade level program is for refrigeration and air conditioning apprentices and others working or intending to work with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in domestic, commercial or industrial situations.
At CIT you will be given the opportunity to learn and work with equipment associated with Refrigeration and Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC).
There will be many opportunities to develop and practice your skills to industry standard with the most up-to-date technology and equipment in our custom built electrotechnology workshop.

Additional Information
On successful completion of this program, you can apply for a full "Refrigeration and Air conditioning Licence" from the Australian Refrigeration Council and also, apply for a "Restricted Electrical Disconnect Reconnect" licence through State and Territory regulators.
Skills Recognition
Entry Requirements
You must have an ACT Year 10 Certificate or equivalent. It is essential that you are able to read and write documents and understand maths concepts to a level required to complete Year 10. Early in the program these skills will be checked - any student who cannot read and write documents and complete maths work to the level needed will be enrolled into additional subjects to help them build the skills needed to successfully complete the program.
Apprentices
If you are entering as an apprentice under the Australian Apprenticeship Scheme (AAS), you must be employed in the industry, and be registered with a Apprentice Network Providers (ANP) prior to enrolment
Non-apprentices
If you are not entering as an apprentice; within 6 months of starting the course you must be employed in the refrigeration/air-conditioning industry or have access to a workplace and be supervised by a trade qualified and licensed tradesperson (Certificate III in Refrigeration and Air conditioning or equivalent who has an ArcTICK, RHL Refrigerant Handling Licence) to achieve the workplace completion requirements of this program.
This program has pre-requisite requirements as shown below. All prerequisites must be achieved. Discuss with a CIT teacher during enrolment to ensure you have met these requirements.
Before working with refrigerants, you will be required to obtain a Trainee Refrigerant Handling Trainee licence (at your own cost) from the Australian Refrigeration Council. http://www.arctick.org/
To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Literacy Skills Information
We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level program. Please visit Foundation Skills.
