You must:

- be employed in the metals industry

AND

- be an Apprentice or Trainee under the Australian Apprenticeship Scheme (AAS) and be registered with an Apprentice Network Provider (ANP) prior to enrolment

Additional Information: This qualification may also be achieved through other pathways which do not involve a contract of training, such as recognition of prior learning. In all cases achievement or recognition of competence is necessary in all of the required units of competency to be awarded a national qualification

To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level course. Please visit Foundation Skills.

Transition Information

Qualifications at CIT are regularly updated or replaced to meet current industry needs and maximise your employment opportunities. If this occurs while you are part way through a qualification, you may need to vary your learning to meet the new national requirements. CIT will aim to make this as smooth as possible for you.

Subject Cancellations/Changes

To ensure positive outcomes for all students, CIT may need to cancel or change classes at short notice. CIT will make every effort to inform students as soon as changes are made and will also make every effort to offer alternative arrangements for students to meet the requirements of the subject and complete their qualification. In an unfortunate instance when this cannot be met, you will receive a full refund. Please ensure you maintain current contact details via CIT Self Service or by contacting CIT Student Services at infoline@cit.edu.au.

Description: This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to operate and monitor a machine and process and applies to a range of production operations or continuous processes. The work is performed in accordance with clear step-by-step instructions and procedures documented on job sheets or similar process instruction documents. Operational adjustments to the machine or process by the operator are made using external controls. Basic operation (excluding setting and tool adjustments) of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines is also covered by this unit. Where operational maintenance is required to be performed unit MEM07001 Perform operational maintenance of machines/equipment should also be selected. Where the interpretation of technical drawings is required unit MEM09002 Interpret technical drawing should also be selected. Where production packaging and labelling of the finished goods or product is required unit MEM11006 Perform production packaging should also be selected. Where the selection and use of engineering measurement is required unit MEM12023 Perform engineering measurements should also be selected. Where the selection and use of tools is required unit MEM18001 Use hand tools and unit MEM18002 Use power tools/hand held operations, should also be selected as appropriate. This unit should not be selected with any of the following units unless the skills of this unit are being applied to an additional and different type of machine and or process: MEM04001 Operate melting furnaces MEM04002 Perform gravity die casting MEM04003 Operate pressure die casting machine MEM04006 Operate sand moulding and core making machines MEM06001 Perform hand forging MEM06002 Perform hammer forging MEM08001 Perform wire, jig and barrel load/unload work MEM08004 Finish work using wet, dry and vapour deposition methods MEM08008 Operate and control surface finishing waste treatment process

      Credit Points: 2
Description: This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to assist in the provision of on-the-job training to others while undertaking normal duties and it may involve the replacement of normal duties with training duties for limited periods of time. The individual would not be expected to be solely responsible for the assessment or reporting of a trainee's progress. Typical applications could include the provision of on-the-job training by a tradesperson to apprentices/trainees or by a production worker to other production workers/trainees.Where the development of training programs is required unit MEM17001 Assist in development and deliver training in the workplace should also be selected. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 2
