This program provides underpinning knowledge and skills for qualified plumbers, gas fitters, refrigeration and air conditioning technicians, assembly and servicing electrical fitter and mechanical fitter to register for a Restricted Electrical License (REL). This licence is required to carry out electrical disconnect and reconnect work in the ACT. The license is issued by Access Canberra ACT Government and not CIT.
This program achieves units of competency from Certificate III in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE32211).
|Qualification:||Statement of Attainment - training in Restricted Electrical Disconnect - Reconnect [extract from UEE32211]|
|Duration:||Over a 10 -12 week period (approximately 6 hours per week).|
Enrolment fees for this course are based on the costs per subject as indicated below. In addition, a Service and Amenities fee of $40 will be payable each semester. Further information is available at Course fees and assistance
|Likely Job Outcome:||Gives qualified plumbers, gas fitters, refrigeration and air conditioning technicians, assembly and servicing electrical fitter and mechanical fitter additional skills for work.|
Once enrolled at CIT, you will be required to apply for a Restricted Disconnect Reconnect permit with "Access Canberra ACT Government". On presentation of your restricted permit to CIT, you will then be issued with a workplace log book from CIT to record evidence of tasks performed in your workplace. If you wish to apply for a Restricted Electrical Licence (REL) to enable you to work within the ACT, the log book tasks must be completed within the ACT or the surrounding local region. For other jurisdictions, candidates are advised to check for REL licencing regulatory requirements and workplace requirements.
Note: Your workplace log book will require all disconnect and reconnect jobs (relevant to your trade sector only) to be supervised by a qualified Electrician or current Disconnect/Reconnect licence holder. Once you have completed all your log book entries you will submit it to CIT. To be eligible to apply for a Restricted Electrical Disconnect/Reconnect licence with "Access Canberra ACT", you must have successfully completed your log book and training with CIT within your permit period.
If you require further information on the requirements to be issued a Restricted Electrical Licence in the ACT, contact the Construction Occupations Registrar on 02 6207 8096.
Entry Requirements / How to Apply
-be a qualified tradesperson employed in the following trades only: plumbing and gas fitter, Type B gas appliances, refrigeration and air conditioning, assembly and servicing electrical fitter and electrical and mechanical fitter, where disconnection and reconnection of electrical wiring is a component of the work performed.
Note that Restricted Licence requirements do not apply to appliances supplied with electricity through a cord and plug.
To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Qualifications at CIT are regularly updated or replaced to meet current industry needs and maximise your employment opportunities. If this occurs while you are part way through a qualification, you may need to vary your learning to meet the new national requirements. CIT will aim to make this as smooth as possible for you.
To ensure positive outcomes for all students, CIT may need to cancel or change classes at short notice. CIT will make every effort to inform students as soon as changes are made and will also make every effort to offer alternative arrangements for students to meet the requirements of the subject and complete their qualification. In an unfortunate instance when this cannot be met, you will receive a full refund. Please ensure you maintain current contact details via CIT Self Service or by contacting CIT Student Services at firstname.lastname@example.org.
