Practical Welding Skills

Imagine how useful it would be to learn essential welding skills and apply them to work in a diverse range of metals!

Our course will safely teach you practical welding skills in our industry standard workshop. You'll also learn underpinning knowledge through theory assessments. You'll be able to access all course material through our online learning system, eLearn.

We run the course after business hours to suit your busy work schedule.

You'll be enrolled under the Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (MEM30305).

Requirements

Bring what welding equipment you already have or you can buy a welding kit for the course. You can buy a welding kit for approximately $150 from BOC Gas in Barrier Street, Fyshwick.

You also need to supply your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Your PPE must include cotton drill long pants, a long sleeve shirt, clear safety glasses and leather-steel cap work boots.

Upcoming courses

Please note we require a minimum number of enrolments to run these courses.

Date Duration Day and time Location
Tuesday 10 August 2021 18 weeks Tuesdays, 5:30 - 9:30pm CIT Fyshwick
Wednesday 11 August 2021 18 weeks Wednesdays, 5:30 - 9:30pm CIT Fyshwick

Applying

To apply, please complete the register your interest form at the bottom of this page.

After you complete the form, our staff will contact you to give you more information and confirm the course dates. You'll attend an enrolment night the week before your course starts where you'll be able to ask any questions you have.

Costs

You'll receive an invoice after you've enrolled. Please note, costs are reflective of our 2021 course fees.

If you're a new student, you'll complete eight Units of Competency (UOCs) in your selected welding process. This will cost $668, which includes your material fees. Choose one of the following:

  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Tig Welding
  • Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW) Stick Welding
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Mig Welding.

If you have completed our welding course, you can get a certificate of completion for another welding process by completing two additional UOCs. This will cost $338, which includes your material fees. Choose one ‘perform routine’ unit and one ‘weld using’ unit from the list below.

Choose one 'perform routine' unit:

  • Perform routine gas tungsten arc welding (MEM05049B)
  • Perform routine manual metal arc welding (MEM05012C)
  • Perform routine gas metal arc welding (MEM05050B)

Choose one 'weld using' unit:

  • Weld using gas tungsten arc welding process (MEM05019D)
  • Weld using manual arc welding process (MEM05015D)
  • Weld using gas metal arc welding process (MEM05017D)
