Bar Service short course

This course is for people who want to work in bartending positions in restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels and clubs. This five week course delivered at CIT Reid includes the Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate (RSA) SITHFAB201.

The Bar Service short course will teach you practical skills, including:

  • bar opening and closing procedures
  • preparing mixed drinks
  • basic cocktail making skills
  • preparing garnish
  • pouring beer from beer taps
  • preparing hot beverages
  • drink waiting
  • cashiering and
  • customer service.

Successful completion of this course achieves the qualification Statement of Attainment - training in Bar Service [extract from SIT30616].

Responsible Service Alcohol (RSA)

If you're employed to serve liquor in the ACT, you must have a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) SITHFAB201 certification.

This course is run over a single four hour session.

Successful completion of this course achieves the qualification Statement of Attainment - training in Providing Responsible Service of Alcohol [extract from SIT30616].

How to enrol online

Before you can enol, you'll need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number. If you don't have a USI, you can apply for one at usi.gov.au

Step 1 - Enrol into your course

Enrol online here if you're a current CIT student, or here if you're a new student.

RSA instructions

Follow the online prompts and when you're asked for your enrolment type, select 'Skills Training'.

Bar Service instructions

Follow the online prompts and when you're asked for your enrolment type, select 'Standard'. When you're asked for your planned course of study, select 'SA-TS35 Statement of Attainment in Bar Service'.

Step 2 - Enrol into your class

Choose a class from the tables above. Follow the online prompts and when you're asked, enter the Class Reference Number (CRN) of your chosen class.

Identification

You need to bring proof of ID to your first class. Please bring three forms of ID, including one from each of the following categories:

  • Photographic ID that shows your date of birth, such as you driver's licence or proof of age card.
  • Residency ID that shows you're an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian protection visa. Examples include your passport and green Medicare card.
  • Third form of ID that shows your name, such as your bank card or your bank statement.

Fee payment

Once you've enrolled, we'll email your invoice to you. You can use your invoice to pay your fees online, in person or over the phone. You must pay your fees by the due date on your invoice.
