Overview

This qualification provides you with the skills and knowledge to be competent in a wide range of general Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and to support small to medium enterprises (SMEs). The program will equip you with broad skill base in problem solving, cyber security requirements, basic networking, ICT support, testing, database development, programming and web development.

Specialisations extend across a diverse range of object orientated programming languages, Infrastructure management and network engineering, or testing.

At CIT you may achieve this qualification by completing the units in one of three elective streams.
- Infrastructure Support - with a focus on networking, plus units in web technologies and databases.
- Applications Development - with a focus on programming and web technologies, plus units in database, project analysis and planning.
- Testing - with a focus on test planning, operational acceptance testing and web and diagnostics testing.

Duration: 2 semesters (approx. 18 hours per week) full-time or part-time equivalent. It is expected that you will spend approximately the same number of hours in private study to practise skills and apply new knowledge.

Subject costs identified as Standard are partially subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible students.

Costs identified as Apprentice or Trainee apply only to students studying as part of an Australian Apprenticeship arrangement. The qualification cost for an Apprentice or Trainee is subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible Apprentices or Trainees.

Costs identified as Full Fee receive no government subsidy. Concessions are not available.

Entry Requirements / How to Apply

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.  However, it is assumed that you have:

- Completed the Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology or other relevant qualification, or units equivalent to the core of the Certificate III;
or
- Demonstrated vocational experience in a range of work environments using basic information technologies.  This experience should be relevant to your chosen Elective Stream.

To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

    • We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program.
