Building and Construction Short Courses

CIT offers a range of short courses tailored for those who are working in the construction industry and would like to increase their knowledge of effective management of a building business.

These short courses are aimed specifically at the small business environment and the local building industry and have been designed to give you a basic understanding of building business practices in a matter of hours.

Understanding the Building Codes of Australia (BCA)

The purpose of this subject is to introduce you to the Building Code of Australia. It will take you through the elements and structure of the code and introduce you to Performance Requirements.

Planning building or construction work

The purpose of this subject is to introduce you to the planning of low rise building and construction work. Learn the National Construction Code (previously Building Code of Australia) requirements that relate to the construction of timber frames for residential low rise construction projects. Gain an understanding of how this affects building materials and site processes.

Estimating for Builders (Basics)

The purpose of this subject is to gain an insight into the processes of accurately estimating costs relating to labour, materials, and overheads on a building project. Find out how this will affect your building project.

Introduction to Construction Planning

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the planning process of low rise building and construction work.

Navisworks Basics

The Navisworks program is a hands-on course in cutting edge building software. It allows students to open and combine 3D BIM/CAD models from different disciplines; architecture, building design, plumbing and others.

Cost: $750
Delivery: 3 day workshops (approx. 4 hours each) OR 3 evening workshops (approx. 4 hours each) OR weekend workshops.

How to apply

Step 1 - Apply Your application type is "Skills Training"

Step 2 - Enrol You will need to enter your class reference number (CRN) (see above table)

If you plan to enrol on the day please contact CIT Student Services one working day prior to the scheduled class to confirm the class has not been postponed or cancelled. Those who have enrolled will be notified by email should the class be postponed one day prior to course date.

IDENTIFICATION: You will need to bring proof of ID to class. Please bring three forms of ID. These must include:

  • photo ID
  • ID showing your date of birth
  • ID showing that you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen (eg passport, medicare card)

Payment

Payment can be made in person at CIT Student Services at CIT Reid, CIT Gungahlin, CIT Bruce and CIT Tuggeranong. We accept payment by EFTPOS or credit card. Payment must be made prior to the course start date.

Cancellation & refunds

Courses run subject to sufficient enrolment numbers. If CIT cancels a course in which you have enrolled and fees have been paid, a full refund of fees will be approved. We will refund fees paid back to the card used at enrolment. Please allow up to three weeks for the refund to be processed. Alternatively the payment can be transferred in full or part to another course. No refund will be granted after you have enrolled and paid, unless the course is cancelled by CIT Solutions. Non-attendance or inability to attend your enrolled course does not warrant a refund.
