This program provides an introduction to working in the health care sector. The focus is on preparing people to work in nursing or healthcare and provides a study pathway into relevant qualifications.

This course is also available for ACT Public school students; years 11 to 12. Please see your school for participation in this course.

1 semester part time approx. 6 hours per week

In addition to scheduled classes, students will require between 2-4 hours per week to complete individual learning tasks, such as personal research, self-directed learning, practice and revision, assessment items and on line activities.

The 2021 Semester 2 enrolment fees for this course are based on the costs per subject as indicated below. The total program cost may vary depending on the choice of elective subjects or if subjects are attempted more than once. Subject costs identified as Standard are partially subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible students.

Entry Requirements

On entry, you will require a letter from a General Practitioner stating fitness to participate in the simulated health care learning environment located on campus.

To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 4 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level program. Please visit Foundation Skills.

      Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body. This unit applies to any worker who needs to use and interpret information that includes references to client anatomy and physiology.

      Cost: Full fee $260.00
      Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. This unit applies to all workers.
