Community Services Skill Sets

Working in the community services sector and seeking professional development? CIT's community services skill set offer is the perfect opportunity to upskill and gain targeted industry knowledge. Eligible participants must meet the Skilled Capital eligibility outlined below, and must be an existing worker in the Community Services industry.

Delivery: All of our skill sets are offered over 8 weeks with blended learning including online content, plus a three day workshop hosted at CIT Bruce.
Fees: $100 enrolment fee and $100 completion payment upon meeting Skilled Capital and industry eligibility requirements.

CHCSS00091 - Team Leader Skill Set

New to management? CIT's team leader skill set training will offer you supervisory skills to help you lead your team and providing workplace coaching.

You'll study the following units:

  • Lead the work team (CHCMGT003)
  • Provide workplace coaching (PSPGOV415A)/(PSPGEN036)
  • Reflect and improve own professional practice (CHCPRP003)

CHCSS00093 - Alcohol and Other Drugs Skill Set

This training will offer you specialised skills in assisting the needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues.

You'll study the following units:

  • Work in an alcohol and other drugs context (CHCAOD001)
  • Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues (CHCAOD004)
  • Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues (CHCAOD006)
  • Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans (CHCAOD009)

CHCSS00092 - Alcohol and Other Drugs Co-existing Needs Skill Set

This training will offer you specialised skills in assisting the co-existing needs of clients with mental health alcohol and other drugs issues.

You'll study the following units:

  • Develop strategies for alcohol and other drugs relapse prevention and management (CHCAOD007)
  • Provide advanced interventions to meet the needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues (CHCAOD008)
  • Assess co-existing needs (CHCCCS004)
  • Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues (CHCMHS005)

Mental Health Co-existing Needs Skill Set (CHCSS00102)

This training will offer you specialised skills in assisting the co-existing needs of clients with mental health issues.

You'll study the following units:

  • Work collaboratively with the care network and other services (CHCMHS004)
  • Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues (CHCMHS005)
  • Implement recovery oriented approaches to complexity (CHCMHS010)
  • Assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing (CHCMHS011)

Skilled Capital Eligibility Requirements

The ACT Government's Skilled Capital training initiative is aimed at improving access to high quality training in skills shortage areas.

The initiative will give eligible participants the opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification and receive a completion payment from the Education Department upon successful completion of their skilled capital qualification.

As a minimum a student must, at the time of enrolment, be:

a) an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand passport holder resident for more than six (6) months, or
b) a person who holds a visa that is identified as being eligible, and
c) living or working in the ACT, and
d) at least 15 years of age, and
e) not enrolled in or attending secondary school or college except where the student:
i) is undertaking a course of study leading to completion of year 12 in an alternative program, or
ii) has an Exemption Certificate and the selected Skilled Capital qualification is an approved ASBA pathway.
