James Luke - Music
James Luke has over fifteen years' experience as a professional musician and music educator. A highly sought after performer in a diverse range of styles, James is a 'first call' bass player for many artists from traditional jazz to modern pop and rock.
James has performed with artists including renowned jazz drummer Olavi Louhivouri (Finland), jazz ukulele virtuoso Benny Chong (USA), Ian and Nigel Date, highly acclaimed singers Hetty Kate and Grace Knight, and trumpeter and composer Miroslav Bukovsky.
James plays and teaches both double bass and bass guitar, covering all common techniques and styles, including fretted and fretless bass guitar and double bass. James is renowned for his keen interest in electronic sound manipulation on both bass guitar and double bass.
Currently teaching at both ANU School of Music and the CIT Music Industry Centre, James' teaching methodology is tailored to each student and their desired learning outcomes, with a strong focus on preparing students for a lifetime of playing music, so they develop skills they can enjoy forever.
